"biggest upset in the biggest sporting event in the world" @ 06.07.02
so i'm sitting here checking out friends away messages because sometimes they're amusing, and i see this.

Arsenal manager on Group D:

There is not much of a football culture in the United States and in this group you cannot really look further than Portugal and Poland going through or maybe South Korea who have the advantage of being at home.

- Arsene Wenger

The man was right about the Gunners, let's hope he's wrong now...

and while yes, i love arsene wenger for what he's done with the gunners, he is now obiviously wrong.

i mean the fact that the us won over portgual is such a monumental thing. in senegal where they upset france, everyone took the day off and there were parties country-wide. what happened here? the team got a small blurb on sportscenter instead of them just showing the scores.

and this in essence is what's fucked up about this country. no one gives a shit that we just pulled off one of, if not the, biggest upset in the biggest sporting event in the world, ever.

want to know what else is sad. you can't buy a team usa jersey around here, anywhere it's fucking pathetic. i want to beat up every joe schmoe on the street for being so stupid and not seeing the amazing feat our team pulled off for not getting more into this stuff. i mean i looked everywhere within a 20 mile radius and i couldn't find shit it pisses the fuck outta me. guess i'll hafta order it online then. motherfuckers.

but the one thing that has suprised the fuck out of me. my friends [the ones who don't really like soccer, don't even play it] are getting into it. the two of them even stayed up for the usa/portgual match. so it's kind of a good thing because now i can talk about soccer stuff with them and they don't go "...shutup"

arg, if you can't tell, this just pisses me off. i don't see how people can't love this game, it's beautiful, the way we played on wednesday, or whatever day that was [i was up all night so it sorta blurred together] was fucking amazing. some of the most beautiful football i've seen in ages, anywhere.

now it's time to cease the rambling and attempt to get 5 hours of sleep so i can wake up and watch the england/argentina match. joy of joys. hopefully england won't play like shit...but who knows.

scud
